Advanced AV to Host Quarterly Local Art Showcase“Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the human imagination.” –Daniel Bell

Our region is both ripe with technical innovation and rich in culture. We know that here at Advanced AV, and we regularly look for ways to engage with and give back to our community of colleagues, customers and fellow citizens. Most recently, we’ve chosen to celebrate the robust local art scene by hosting a quarterly Artist Showcase. This initiative not only adds touches of beauty to our hallways—it also presents us with yet another opportunity to support the people and causes closest to us.

About the Art Showcase

Each quarter, we’ll host an exhibition by a local artist. This artist—chosen by a committee of proud community-minded Advanced AV team members—will be given the opportunity to display pieces in a variety of mediums within our office outside of Philadelphia. Featured artists will offer artwork for sale to our employees, interested community members, and business partners. And a portion of the proceeds from any artwork sales will go to charity.

At its outset, the Art Showcase will be held quarterly. To expand the project in the future, new artists may be featured monthly or multiple artists may be featured simultaneously. Looking ahead, we plan to not only increase the number of artists we feature but also the space within our office allotted for displaying their work. In addition, we’re planning a future reception for all our showcased artists—including one of the forthcoming showcases that will feature the photography work of our talented Advanced AV team members.

As this project matures, it will not only bring about more featured art, but also more potential for charitable giving as a result. Something that we really believe in here at Advanced AV, and are proud to support.

About our Featured Artist

This quarter, Advanced AV has decided to feature the artwork of our neighbor, Jimm Scannell. Jimm, a highly sought after painter and sculptor with a studio right here in Philadelphia, is the recipient of many prestigious awards including The Walker Hancock Prize and the Walter & Michael Lantz Prize (given for first place in the National Sculpture Competition). A 1999 graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Jimm was chosen as our first showcase artist for the diversity and quality of his media. From the samples below, it’s easy to see why Jimm is so well regarded within the industry, and we’re honored to adorn our office space with his work.

About Our Mission

At Advanced AV, we pride ourselves on our dedication to engineering technologies that both support and empower our customers. Outside of our services, though, we’re also proud of the corporate culture we’ve created that embraces and celebrates all the good in our team members and our community. The Art Showcase is our latest in a series of initiatives that contribute to this mission, but you’ll be hearing a lot more in the coming months about our culture, and some of the incredible things our people are getting up to.

Darren Brown—an Advanced AV Sales Engineer, Art Showcase Committee Member and “Resident Good Guy”—said that as an amateur artist himself, he came up with the idea for the showcase because he knows how difficult it can be to market and promote locally produced media.

“I wanted to provide other artists, especially those who live by their craft, an opportunity to have their work seen when it may otherwise be sitting in their studio or garage collecting dust in between shows,” Darren said. “As well as being an opportunity for local artists, I hope that the showcase will add a dimension to Advanced AV as a company and gives us unique exposure to our clients and partners but also give our employees an opportunity to escape into the art world if for just a moment.”

Darren joins fellow Art Showcase Committee members Susan Lucci, Alicia Eccleston and Angela Johnson. For more information on the Art Showcase—or any of our other charitable or community contributions—feel free to drop us a line . We’d love to hear from you.
